Dreamworks Case Study
DreamWorks: Helping them solve a business problem for their film rendering:
- 30% of their IT resources on average were not being utilized, despite an aggressive batching/queuing system designed to drive up utilization.
- They were unable to render scenes quickly enough to have interactive editing sessions between the graphic artists and directors, as a result of their queuing system
DreamWorks realized that moving 50% of their IT resources for rendering to the cloud would both boost their on-site utilization and enable agility through cloudbursting, to facilitate interactive editing sessions their directors needed to be effective.
DreamWorks compared HP to competition and found that HP was unique in delivering enterprise class cloud resources, with the latency, security, and availability requirements needed.
In the process of being implemented, DreamWorks' own calculations show they will save 30% in IT costs through this move, in addition to the increased business value through closer to real-time scene rendering.
